Reduce Waste

Reduce Waste

I am thinking about the ways in which we treat the earth, our bodies, and each other. Wasting can hurt many forms of wildlife and will eventually hurt us. This waste comes from single use plastic that we need to stop using. Today, start using reusable straws, reusable bags, or water filters. No matter how small the change, today you can make it. Join me today in committing to a small, medium, or large action in your personal life to reduce waste.

1) Use bamboo straws or stainless steel straws: reusable, recyclable, non- toxic, and degradable for the bamboo material. Here’s a great option!

2) Get/buy cloth tote bags for yourself and your family: It’s washable, and you can use it for a very long time. It reduces the use of single use plastic bags. Most of the household has these bags. Back then until 2014, it was very difficult to use cloth bags. People got used to complimentary single use plastic bags. Now, time has changed. It took at least two years before people stopped complaining about being charged for reusable plastic bags. The good thing that nowadays, people bring their own cloth bags more often to the grocery stores.

3) Don’t use plastic water bottles at home. Use a water filter at home rather than buying single use drinking water in the plastic bottles. You save money, reduce the use of single use plastic bottles, eliminate toxins (It’s BPA free), and it’s reusable. There is one that is made of stainless steel. Here are some options!

Save Energy

Save Energy

Like everyone, I’ve been spending so much time at home these days that I’ve been using my lights more than usual. I realized what an impact it could make if we turned them off when we didn’t need them. If you want to take it a step higher try the medium or hard task this week. However the small things still make a big difference when we all do them.

1) Turn off the light in your house when you do not need it. It saves money and is better for the environment. You can open blind to let in natural light into your room rather than using the artificial lights. You save energy and money.

2) Buy for LED light bulbs. It’s energy saving bulbs. Read the information on the packaging regarding how much energy you can save with this type of bulb. Link to options.

3) There are options for solar panels companies in the Bay Area, California.

For renters, look into switching where your energy comes from with your electricity service provider or joining a community solar farm.
